2021 EU Industry Week to Feature SEAM Program

FEPA to discuss how the European abrasive industry is transforming its business mode to become more sustainable

Paris, France (February 25th, 2021) – FEPA, the Federation of European Producers of Abrasives, announced that the online webinar on sustainability organised by the Federation on 3 March 2021 has been approved by the European Commission as an official local event during EU Industry Week. With a high-level policy conference in Brussels (23-26 February 2021) and partner events around Europe, EU Industry Week is the biggest annual event on European industrial policy.

Achieving sustainability in industry presents several challenges: cooperation of the supply chain, intricacies of production process, integration of sustainable principle into a systematic business approach. By addressing its environmental footprint, an industry as a whole can seize new opportunities, respond to consumer demand for responsible products and pre-empt new regulations. The abrasive industry in Europe serves as an example showing that sustainability can be achieved through a voluntary industry program: SEAM – Sustainable European Abrasive Manufacturers.

“EU Industry Week gives the European abrasive industry a great opportunity to showcase the SEAM program’s early achievements in integrating environmental policies and using the targets system to bring an industry into a sustainable path,” said Stefan Sjöberg, FEPA President.

The SEAM Members must meet a series of minimum sustainability requirements and they must set for the next three years their sustainability targets. With its efficient monitoring and support system, the SEAM program has already attracted significant interest from other industrial sectors and the event will be an occasion to discuss its contribution in achieving the EU’s climate and sustainability goals and the possibility to adapt this approach to other industrial sectors.

The webinar “Sustainability: Transforming Industry’s Business Model”, held on 3 March 2021 from 10:00-11:00 am, will feature a panel discussion between members of industry and European authorities represented by a speaker from European Commission’s Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW).
